Vintage Sewing Map

Maggie Lehane

Let's take a look at my Mapbox Studio Basemap!

This map makes use of brown and black along with many different styles of dotted lines, just like vintage sewing patterns. In this way, the land is the pattern piece, and the water is the surface it is laid out on.

The dotted lines are mostly used for roads to show varying type of road. For example, "larger" primary roads have wider and longer dotted lines, versus "smaller" secondary roads.

Let's go to the big four fashion capitals of the world -- Starting with Paris, France!

Here's Milan, Italy. Here you can see how much natural land and small water bodies surround the city.

Next, this is London, England. You can see the River Thames snake through the city with many ferry lanes.

Lastly, here is New York City, United States! You can see how many roads, of varying importance, are in the city.

Let's see how this basemap looks at different zoom levels!
